• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it
from any accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage
the product.
• Never open/dismantle the product (except for the process described in this user manual for
inserting/replacing the (rechargeable) batteries.
• Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room into a warm
one. The condensation generated could destroy the product. Always allow the product to

Operation
a) Inserting / replacing (rechargeable) batteries
• Install the (rechargeable) batteries before first-time use or replace the (rechargeable) batteries when the
battery symbol
appears in the LCD. Removing and replacing (rechargeable) batteries will delete
all stored settings.
• Open the battery compartment lid (4) and insert 2 new type AAA 1.5 V batteries (not included) into
the battery compartment observing correct polarity (positive/+ and negative/-). Reclose the battery
compartment.
You can operate the product using rechargeable batteries. However, the lower voltage of
rechargeable batteries (rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, battery = 1.5 V) and the lower capacity
result in a shorter operating time compared to normal batteries. If you still wish to use
rechargeable batteries, use special, low self-discharge NiMH rechargeable batteries. We
recommend you using high-quality alkaline batteries in order to guarantee long and safe
operation.
Reset the radio alarm clock if the LCD is incorrect or shows nothing at all (see chapter "Settings"
- "k) Resetting the alarm clock").
b) Setting up
• To ensure proper reception of the DCF radio signal, the product should not be positioned next to other
electronic devices, cables, metal components, etc. Do not place the radio alarm clock too close to a heat
source.
• Place the radio alarm clock on a dry, even, firm surface. When placing the product on valuable furniture,
use suitable padding in order to avoid scratching.
c) Receiving DCF signal
• After inserting the batteries, a beep sounds and all display elements are shown briefly before the radio
alarm clock automatically begins searching for the DCF signal. The radio tower symbol
• This synchronization procedure usually takes approx. 3 minutes. Once the DCF signal has been decoded,
the clock will display the accurate time. The radio tower symbol is displayed continuously when reception
is successful. The number of displayed radio waves indicates the reception quality.
• Do not move the radio alarm clock or press any buttons or switches during this search.
• Bad DCF reception is likely in case of metallized, soundproofed windows, reinforced-concrete structures,
coated special wallpapers, in the proximity of electronic devices, or in basements.
• Signal reception is typically better during the night than during daylight hours.
• If after approx. 3 minutes the current time is still not shown, move the product to a new position and begin
manual DCF reception (see section "d) Manually start/stop DCF reception").
• Every day at 3 a.m., 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. the clock will automatically
synchronize the DCF time. That is enough to keep any time
deviation below 1 second per day.
• The DCF signal is transmitted from a station located in
Mainflingen (near Frankfurt/Main). Its range is 1500 km, under
ideal reception conditions even up to 2000 km. The DCF signal
contains, amongst others, the exact clock time (theoretical time
deviation of one second in one million years!), the date, and the
weekday. Manual setting of daylight savings/standard time is not
necessary. The symbol
appears, once the device receives
the daylight saving time signal.
