6. MAINTENANCE
At the end of each period of operation, or periodically, carefully clean the boiler and the chimney, too, if ne-
cessary.
To clean the boiler, simply open both cast-iron doors, take out the fire guards then, using a flexible wire brush,
carefully clean the firebox and the various smoke passages. Then remove any soot deposited in the ashpan.
Check, too, that the outlet pipes for the products of combustion and the chimney are clean and airtight.
7. PLUMBING SYSTEM
Periodically, it is necessary to check that the system is full of water. These checks should be made cold, checking
the expansion tanks that, if of the open kind, must have water at the initial level and, if of the closed kind, must
have pressure equal to the starting pre-load pressure.
Remember that, barring exceptional cases (frost, etc.), to prevent continual deposits of scale in the boiler shell,
the plumbing system must never be drained and antifreeze must be added to it.
