7.2 On/off switch cutting laser
The cutting laser is switched on using the switch
(3).
The cutting laser marks a line to the left of the
saw's cut. Make a trial cut to become familiar with
the positioning.
7.3 Setting the angle of inclination
Fig. G: Swivel the saw head upwards. Fold the
latch lever (27) towards the front. After loosening
the locking lever (29) (swivel towards the rear),
the saw can be inclined between 0° and 45° to
the left and between 0° and 45° (KGS 254 l pLus:
22.5°) to the right to the vertical.
If the latch lever (27) is folded towards the rear,
the saw locks in particular positions.
Put the lilt limiter (28) into its lowest position in
order to also set angles up to 46° to the left of the
vertical/ up to 46° (depending on the model) to
the right of the vertical.
Danger!
In order for the mitre angle not to change during
cutting, the locking lever (29) of the turntable has
to be tightened (also in the stop positions!).
7.4 Turntable
Fig. H: After loosening the locking handle (14)
and activating the latch levers (15), the turntable
can be turned to the left or to the right for mitre
cuts.
If the latch lever (15) is pushed upwards, the
turntable locks in particular angle levels. If the
latch lever (15) is pushed downwards all the way,
the locking function is deactivated.
Danger!
In order for the mitre angle not to change during
cutting, the locking handle (14) of the turntable has
to be tightened (also in the stop positions!).
7.5 Pulling device
Using the pulling device, also larger workpieces
with greater cross sections can be cut. The
pulling device can be used for all types of cuts
(straight cuts, mitre cuts, slanted cuts and double
mitre cuts, and cutting of grooves).
If the pulling device is not required, lock the
pulling device in the rear position using the set
screw (9).
7.6 Cutting depth limitation
Fig. C: Together with the pulling device the
cutting depth limitation (20) permits the cutting of
grooves.
Turn the set screw (22) and fix with the counter
nut (21). To deactivate, turn the cutting depth
limitation (20) in anti-clockwise direction.
7.7 Speed setting (Not for
KGS 254 I Plus)
Adjust the saw blade speed on the speed selector
(12) to the material to be sawn.
– Position 1 - 2
for profiles made from copper, nickel, brass,
zinc and aluminium.
– Position 3 - 4
for plastic profiles.
– Position 5 - 6
for solid wood and blockboard.
7.8 Connect the chip and dust
extraction unit
Danger!
Some types of wood dust (e.g. beech, oak, ash)
may cause cancer when inhaled.
– Use only a suitable dust extraction unit when
working.
– In addition, use a dust mask, as not all saw dust
is collected or extracted.
Connection (Fig. I):
18
– Possibility 1: Insert suction adapter 35 mm /
44 mm (30) as shown. Connect the chip and
dust extraction unit.
– Possibility 2: Insert suction adapter 58 mm /
100 mm (31) including hose (32) as shown. If
needed, attach suction adapter 58 mm / 35 mm
(33). Connect the chip and dust extraction unit.
· Ensure that the dust extraction unit meets the
requirements stated in chapter 15. "Technical
Specifications".
· Observe the dust collector's operating
instructions as well!
7.9 Installing the workpiece clamping
device
The workpiece clamping device (10) can be
installed in two positions (Fig. J + K):
– For wide workpieces (Fig. J):
Insert the workpiece clamping device into the
rear bore (37) of the table and secure with the
locking screw (38).
– For narrow workpieces (Fig. K):
Undo the locking screw (35) and insert the front
part of the workpiece clamping device into the
front bore (39) of the table.
Clamp the workpiece:
1. Push and hold the button (36) and push the
workpiece clamping device against the
workpiece.
2. Tighten the handle (34) to clamp the
workpiece.
7.10 Connection to mains power
Danger! High voltage
Operate machine only on a power source meeting
the following requirements (see also chapter 15.
"Technical Specifications"):
– Mains voltage and system frequency must
conform to the voltage and frequency shown on
the machine´s rating label;
– fuse protection by a residual current operated
device (RCD) of 30 mA sensitivity;
– outlets properly installed, earthed or grounded,
and tested.
· Make sure the power supply cable is out of the
way, so that it does not interfere with the work
and does not pose a tripping hazard or will get
damaged.
· Use only rubber-jacketed extension cables with
sufficient lead cross-section (3 × 1.5 mm
· Use extension cables for outdoor areas. When
working outdoors, only use the correspondingly
marked extension cable approved for this
purpose.
· Avoid accidental start-up. Ensure that the on/off
switch is switched off when inserting the plug in
the socket.
8. Operation
· Before starting work, check to see that the
following are in proper working order.
· Use personal protection gear:
· Assume proper operating position:
– at the front of the saw;
– in front of the saw;
– next to the line of cut.
Danger!
Always fasten the workpiece with the workpiece
clamping device (10) when sawing.
Never saw workpieces that cannot be fastened
with the workpiece clamping device (10).
Danger of crushing!
When inclining or swivelling the saw head, never
reach into the hinge area or below the device!
· Hold the saw head (13) during inclination.
· Use during work:
– work support – for long stock, which would
otherwise fall off the table on completion of the
cut;
– Chip and dust extraction unit.
· Cut only stock of dimensions that can be safely
held during cutting.
· Always hold the workpiece down on the table
and do not jam it. Do not attempt to stop the saw
blade by pushing the workpiece against its side.
Risk of personal injury if the saw blade is
blocked.
