ance with EN 60 745:
Uncertainty
The specifi ed emissions values (vibration, noise)
– are used to compare machines.
– They are also used for making preliminary esti-
mates regarding vibration and noise loads dur-
ing operation.
– They represent the primary applications of the
power tool.
Increase possible for other applications, with oth-
er insertion tools or if not maintained adequately.
Take note of idling and downtimes of machine!

Operating the electric tool for a
fi rst time
WARNING
Risk of accident if the machine is operated us-
ing unauthorised voltages or frequencies.
- The mains voltage and the frequency of the
power source must correspond with the
specifi cations on the machine's name plate.
- In North America, only Festool machines with
the voltage specifi cations 120 V/60 Hz may be
used.
- The planer is equipped with the overload cut-
out and LED overload indicator. The overload
cut-out protects the motor against excessive
overloading.
- Use only extension cords with a cross section
2
of 3 × 1,5 mm
, max. 20 m length (3 × 2,5 mm
max. 50 m). When the electric tool is used out-
doors, use only extension cords intended for
outdoor use and so marked.
For secure guidance, the planer is equipped with
two handles. Planing depth is adjustable by means
of the swiveling front handle (5) and the pointer
on the handle (6) points at the value of adjusted
planing depth. To correctly determine the clear-
ance of the mechanism, fi rst set the draught to the
maximum value of 3 mm and then set the draught
to the required value. The adjusted value may be
fi xed by means of the pivoted locking lever (7).
The incorporated soft-start/brake (only PL 245)
electronic circuit provides for soft starting when
the electric tool is switched on, as well as short
rundown time of approx. 4 s when the electric tool
is switched off.
When working with the planer, place the front ad-
justable shoe (8) onto the workpiece and switch
the motor on, using the switch (2) with the lock-off
button (3) depressed simultaneously. As soon as
a
< 2.5 m/s

h
the cutting head comes in contact with the work-

piece, guide the planer with constant feed speed,
applying light pressure.
When planing for a long time with the maximum
planing depth 3 mm adjusted and maximum plan-
ing width utilized, the LED overload indicator (4) is
to be observed to make sure that the electric tool is
not overloaded – the LED light intensity increases
with overload and the cut-out is triggered after
certain overload rate is achieved. The electric tool
can be started again only after the mains switch
(2) has been released and pressed again.
7
When the maximum planing width is to be uti-
lized, there is possible to lift the pivoted guide
roller (10) into the working position. After the work
is fi nished, tilt the guide roller back into the park-
ing position.
8
When working with wood for a long period or for
industrial use with materials which produce harm-
ful dust, this electric power tool must be connected
to a suitable external dust extraction device.
9
The cutting head (15) is fi tted with the reversible
blades (16) which cannot be resharpened but may
be reversed once. Blunt blades reduce quality of
the work and increase the risk of kickback. There-
fore they must be turned or replaced in good time.

Risk of accident, electric shock
 Always pull the plug out of the socket before
performing any type of work on the machine.
Removing the blade (Figure 4)
 Lock the cutting head against rotation (insert a
pin into the hole (19)).
 Loosen the fi xing screws (20) and pull out the
blade (16) together with the backing plate (17)
sideways.
 Remove the clamping rail (18) upwards.
 Clean the backing faces.
Fitting the blade (Figure 6)
 Replace the clamping rail (18) from above back
