of the appliance should not be undertaken by
children unless they are 8 years old or over
and are supervised. The appliance and power
cable should be kept away from children under
8 years old.
• The appliance can be used by people with
limited physical, sensory or mental capacities
or limited experience and/or knowledge, if
they are supervised or have been instructed in
the safe use of the appliance and have
understood the dangers associated with it.
• Children must not play with the kettle.
• Replacing the power cable and any other
repairs should only be carried out by the
Melitta
customer service or by an authorised
®
repair workshop.
2. Before first use
• Ensure that the power supply in your home
corresponds to that on the model plate on the
base of the appliance.
• Connect the base unit to a power source. Unused
cable can be stored in the base of the appliance.
• All kettles have been tested during production to
ensure they work perfectly. Therefore there may be
remaining water deposits. Clean the appliance before
use by boiling the maximum amount of water twice.
3. Heating water
• Ensure that the kettle is connected to a power
supply.
• Open the lid . The lid is not detachable.
• Fill the kettle with the desired amount of cold water.
With the help of the level markers you can
measure the desired amount of water.
• Never use the kettle without water, fill it with at
least 0.75 litres of water (see level markers).
• Never fill the kettle above the 'max' level.
• Close the lid.
• Put the kettle on the base unit.
• Turn the kettle on .
• Prima Aqua is fitted with an illumination in the kettle
which lights up when the kettle is in operation .
• When the water begins to boil, the kettle needs only
a short time until the steam automatically switches it
off.
• To save energy you could turn the kettle off as soon
as the water begins to boil.
• You can stop the kettle heating at any time by using
the switch or lifting the kettle from the base unit.
Run dry protection
The heating element is equipped with over heating
protection. If you accidentally turn on the kettle
without water, or if the water boils dry (e.g. if the lid
is not closed), dry run protection means the kettle
will switch off automatically. Allow the kettle to cool
before filling with water again.
Limescale filter
The limescale filter in the outlet holds back limescale
or other large particles.
4. Cleaning and maintenance
Before cleaning always remove the appliance from
the power source.
External cleaning
• Do not clean the kettle or the base unit under
running water.
• The kettle and the base unit can both be cleaned
with a soft damp cloth.
• Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents.
Descaling
Limescale deposits in the kettle are unavoidable.
Heavy calcification increases the amount of energy the
appliance uses, as the limescale prevents the optimal
transfer of heat energy to the water. To prevent
damage and to ensure the best transfer of energy the
kettle must be regularly descaled. To descale we
recommend using Melitta
®
Machines Gel. Use the descaler following the
instructions on the pack. After descaling you must
boil the maximum amount of clean water 2-3 times to
remove residue of the descaler.
