Motor
Be sure your power supply agrees with the nameplate marking. Voltage decrease of more than
10% will cause loss of power and overheating. D

INTENDED USE
The DW893 12-gauge shear is designed for professional cutting at various work sites (i.e.,
construction sites). DO NOT use under wet conditions or in presence of flammable liquids or
gases.
These 12-gauge shears are professional power tools. DO NOT let children come into contact
with the tool. Supervision is required when inexperienced operators use this tool.
ADJUSTMENTS
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn unit off and disconnect it from power
source before installing and removing accessories, before adjusting or when making
repairs. An accidental start-up can cause injury.
Blades
Most blade wear (dulling of edges) is on the back edge. Symptoms of blade wear include:
difficulty in cutting material, ragged cut edge, heavier burr, and increased vibration while cutting.
Your shear is equipped with two identical blades with four cutting edges on each blade. The
moving blade wears faster than the stationary blade. However, it is advisable to rotate both
blades to fresh edges at the same time.
TO ROTATE THE BLADES (FIG. 2)
Remove the two blade clamp screws (H, J). Rotate each blade to a fresh edge. Replace screws
exactly as they were removed. NOTE: The stationary blade clamp screw (J) is longer and will
cause damage to the tool if it is used to secure the moving blade (G).
Stationary blade (L) must be snug against the gap adjusting screw (K). Check and adjust blade
gap (I) if necessary. (See To Adjust the Blade Gap) Tighten all screws.
TO ADJUST THE BLADE GAP (FIG. 2, 3)
Loosen the clamp screw (J) and set the blade gap by moving the set screw (K) in or out to the
specification chart. Tighten all screws.
OPERATION (Fig. 1, 2)

Switches
To start tool, depress the paddle switch (D). To turn the tool off, release the paddle. The paddle
switch can be locked on by engaging the lock button (E) located near the rear of the tool, while
holding the paddle depressed. Always be sure that the tool is not locked on before plugging in.
To turn the tool off when it is locked on, squeeze and release the paddle once.
Cutting Tips
• Proper blade gap (I) is important.
• Dull blades increase user pressure on tool to cut and could result in damage to tool.
• Always start tool before engaging material.
• Keep metal surface dry. Otherwise, shear will tend to rebound (slide back) at each cutting
stroke.
• Cut material so that scrap is to the right. This cutting direction will move curl down and out
of the way.
• When cutting a radius, turn the shear counterclockwise for easier maneuvering.
• Best cutting (least effort) can be achieved when back of tool is lowered 5º–10º.
MAINTENANCE

Cleaning
WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week.
To minimize the risk of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye protection when
performing this.
WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh chemicals for cleaning the non-metallic parts
of the tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials used in these parts. Use a cloth
dampened only with water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse
any part of the tool into a liquid.
Lubrication
D WALT tools are properly lubricated at the factory and are ready to use. Tools should be

relubricated regularly every 60 days to 6 months, depending on usage. Tools used constantly on
production or heavy-duty jobs and tools exposed to heat may require more frequent lubrication.
This lubrication should only be attempted by trained power tool repairmen such as those at
D WALT certified service centers.
