4. Operation
Before use, check that:
• that the traveller is in good condition,
• it is not deformed,
• it is not corroded,
• it is not damaged through the effect of chemicals,
• it is functional when open and locked.
"Important": Before and during use, you should consider
how any rescue could be provided effectively and safely
5. Prohibited use
It is strictly forbidden:
- Use of the travsmart traveller by anyone who has not been
authorised, trained and recognised as qualified to use this
system, or without proper supervision by a user who is
authorised, trained and recognised as qualified to use this
system.
- Use of the travsmart traveller if any of the markings on the
device are missing or illegible.
- Use of the travsmart traveller if it has not been covered by the
required preliminary checks.
- To use a travsmart traveller that has not been subject to
periodic review during the prior 12 months, by a technician
who has authorised its return to use in writing.
- Use of the travsmart traveller for any other purpose other than
the purpose described in this manual.
- To use the travsmart traveller on another type of lifeline than
the travsmart and travflex™ 2 lifelines.
- To use the travsmart traveller against the advice provided in
the "Lifetime" section of this manual.
- Use of the travsmart traveller by more than 1 operator at a
time.
- To use a travsmart traveller that has not been audited by an
authorised and competent technician following a fall arrest.
- Use of the travsmart traveller as a means of suspension or as
a position-holding system.
- Use of the travsmart traveller in an explosive atmosphere.
- Use of the travsmart traveller outside an operating
temperature range of between -35°C and +80°C.
- Repair of the travsmart traveller by anyone who has not been
trained and recognised qualified to do so in writing by Tractel
- Use the travsmart traveller when not in perfect physical condition.
- Use of the travsmart traveller by a pregnant woman.
- Use of the travsmart traveller if a rescue plan has not been
prepared previously in the event of an operator fall.
- Use of the travsmart traveller if the safety function of any
of the associated parts is affected by the safety function of
another part, or if it interferes with it.
- Use of the travsmart traveller with the gate connector placed
in the toggle opening.
- Pull on the travsmart traveller to try to clear a possible
obstacle.
- To connect or disconnect the travsmart or travflex™ 2 lifeline
cables and at any other location than that or those provided
for this purpose.
- To pass the lanyards of the fall arrest system on sharp edges
or to leave them rubbing on hard surfaces.
- To use the travsmart traveller on a travsmart and travflex™ 2
lifeline if they have not been subject to prior verification.
- To use the travsmart traveller a travsmart and travflex™ 2
lifeline against the advice provided in the "Lifetime" section
of the lifeline manuals.
- To use a travsmart slider for an operator whose mass,
equipment and tools included, exceeds 150 kg.
- To use a travsmart slider with a mass of between 100 kg and
150 kg (total mass of operator, equipment and tools) if any
component in the fall arrest system has a lower maximum
operating load.
6. Transport and storage
The travsmart traveller covered by this manual must be stored
and transported in its original package.
During storage and/or transport, the traveller must be:
• Preserved in a dry location,
• Preserved at a temperature between - 35°C and +80°C,
• Protected against chemical, mechanical and any other
environmentals attack.
7. Withdrawal from service
When disposing of the product, it is mandatory to recycle the
various components after sorting metallic materials and sorting
synthetic materials. These materials should be recycled to
specialised centres. During disposal, dismantling to separate
components should be achieved by a duly trained person.
The traveller is marked as follows:
a: the trademark: Tractel
c: the reference standard followed by the year of application,
EN 795-C: 2012;
d: product reference: XXXXXX;
f: manufacturing date on daisy wheel;
g: the serial number, e.g.: 14xxxxx device manufactured in
2014;
h: a pictogram indicating that it is necessary to read the manual
before installation and use;
ad: Patent No.: 1055789.
w: Maximum operating load.

11. Periodic inspection and repair
An annual periodical inspection is required, but depending on
the frequency of use, environmental conditions and regulations
