11. Wireless remote control

11.1 Operation

The appliance is generally supplied with a wireless remote
control (fi gure 16). The heating elements in the appliance
can thereby be switched on and off, the light intensity (the
size of the fl ame effect) can be adjusted, and the appliance
can be placed on stand-by.
The symbols on the remote control have been explained in
Figure 16.
The remote is an infrared remote control system, so point
it at the appliance to operate it. The remote control system
will only work if the main switch of the appliance is set at 1.

11.2 Inserting or replacing batteries in the remote

The remote control is battery-powered. The life of the bat-
teries is around one year. For replacing the batteries, follow
the steps outlined below (attention: using batteries that
are not leak proof may permanently damage the remote):
• Remove the battery cover on the bottom of the remote.
• Place the two type AAA batteries in the holder with due
regard to the positive and negative polarity.
• Close the cover.
Attention: old batteries should not be placed in the domes-
tic waste, but should be treated as Small Chemical Waste.

12. First-time use of the heating system

During the fi rst use of the heating elements, an unpleasant
odour may arise due to the dust, and due to the use of the
element material for the fi rst time.
Ensure good ventilation, so that the odour will soon disap-
pear after heating-up takes place a number of times.
If the unpleasant odour continues, please contact your
supplier.

13. General remarks

13.1 Maintenance and cleaning

Inspection and maintenance should always guarantee the
safe operation of the appliance in the manner required, at
all times.
Maintenance involving the dismantling of the ap-
pliance should only be carried by your installer! Your
appliance should be inspected each year by a duly
qualifi ed company.
Before commencing cleaning or inspection, make sure that
the appliance has cooled down and that the voltage supply
to the appliance has been switched off.
It is recommended that the equipment should be regu-
larly checked for accumulated dust and the dust should be
removed if necessary.
If necessary, the air inlet and the air outlet may be cleaned
with a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush. Dust may accumu-
late on the inside of the glass pane in the course of time.
You may remove such dust using a glass cleaner or a soft
cloth (please refer to the instructions for removing
the glass pane). Do not use any corrosive or abrasive ma-
terials to clean the appliance. The guarantee does not cover
damage to paint, for example due to objects being placed
on or against the appliance.

13.2 Thermal cut-out

There is a thermal safety device fi tted to the heating ele-
ments in order to prevent overheating. This may switch off
the heating if the outlet for warm air is obstructed
(see fi gure 2).
Once it has cooled down, the heating element will switch
itself back on. If this safety device should then re-engage for
whatever reason, please contact your supplier.
After the heating element is switched off the fan will con-
tinue to operate for several seconds in order to cool the
element. In relation to this function it is important that the
heating element is switched off using the remote control
before it is switched off with the main switch. The main
switch may only be switched off once the fan has fi nished
operating. This takes about 30 seconds.
