fittings from the bumper. Remove the shock absorbers from the inner fit-
tings. These will not be replaced. Saw out of the bumper the portion indi-
cated in fig. 1.
2. Place supports A and B into the chassis members via the rear. Position
backplates C and D to the left and right of the chassis members against
the rear panel. Attach two M10x40 bolts hand-tight at points G, including
flat washers (dia.25x10.5x4), and spring washers. Attach two M10x40
bolts hand-tight at points H, including spring washers and flat washers.
3. Fasten the tow bar to the inner fittings at points E, using the original fas-
tening materials. Place the inner fittings "including the tow bar" into the
bumper. Place the whole thing onto the vehicle and attach the tow bar
using six M10x40 bolts, including flat and spring washers. Attach the
ballcup to the tow bar using one bolt M12x70/26.2 and one bolt
M12x75/31.2 including socket plate, flat washers and self-locking nuts.
The flange ball is attached to the ball hitch using two bolts M16x50 inclu-
ding spring washers and nuts. Tighten all nuts and bolts to the torque
indicated in the table. Replace the parts removed in step 1.
For the BMW 3-series Compact 2001->, the following applies:
1. Clear the luggage space and floor. Remove the spare tyre. Remove the
bumper from the vehicle. Remove the shock absorbers from the inner
fittings. These will not be replaced. Position the template on the bumper
and saw out the section indicated.
2. Place supports A and B into the chassis members via the rear. Position
backplates C and D to the left and right of the chassis members against
the rear panel. Attach two M10x40 bolts hand-tight at points G, including
flat washers (dia.25x10.5x4), and spring washers. Attach two M10x40
bolts hand-tight at points H, including spring washers and flat washers.
3. Place the towbar onto the vehicle and attach using six M10x40 bolts,
including flat and spring washers. Attach the ballcup to the tow bar using
one bolt M12x70/26.2 and one bolt M12x75/31.2 including socket plate,
flat washers and self-locking nuts. Tighten all nuts and bolts to the tor-
que indicated in the table. Replace the parts removed in step 1.
NOTE:
* Remove the insulating material from the contact area of the fitting points.
* All bolts are quality 8.8 - nuts 8. or when mentioned in fitting instructions
10.9 / 10.
* Don't forget the spring- and plain washers.
* Consult your dealer for the maximum tolerated pull weight and ball
hitch pressure of your vehicle.
* It is recommendable to retighten all fixing bolts and nuts after the towbar
has been in use for some 1000 km/600 miles.
* Do not drill through brake-or fuellines.
* Remove (if present) the plastic caps from the spot welding nuts.

MONTAGEANLEITUNG:
Für die BMW 3er-Reihe Sedan 1998-> und Coupé 1999-> gilt:
1. Den Fußboden im Kofferraum frei machen. Im Kofferraum den Wagen-
heber (links), die Kunststoffrückverkleidung und die Kunststofffächer
(links und rechts) entfernen. Die Stoßstange vom Fahrzeug abnehmen.
Die Innenverkleidung aus der Stoßstange entfernen. Die Stoßdämpfer
aus der Innenverkleidung entfernen. Die entfernten Dämpfer werden
später nicht mehr benötigt. Gemäß Abb. 1 ein Stück aus der Stoßstange
heraussägen.
2. Die Halterungen A und B über die Rückseite in der Langsträger stecken.
Beim linken und rechten Langsträger die Gegenplatten C und D an der
Rückwand anbringen. Bei den Punkten G zwei M10x40-Schrauben ein-
