e) Motor holder and motor
The electric motor is installed on the motor holder using two M3x10mm screws. Then the pinion gear is tightened on
the motor with a grub screw. One side of the motor shaft is flattened so that the pinion cannot lose its position.
Attach the motor holder to the chassis using three M3x8mm countersunk screws. The illustration on the right shows
the motor holder without the motor.
The exact alignment of the motor on the motor holder (tooth backlash) and the position of the
pinion gear on the motor shaft have to be adjusted after the installation of the two differentials
(chapter 7. f).
The motor pinion must completely cover the main gear wheel. It must not be too far at the front
or the back of the motor shaft.
The distance between the motor pinion and the main gear wheel must be as small as possible.
However, both wheels must not be pressing against each other! Otherwise, the main gear wheel
will wear out faster and performance is reduced (the motor needs a lot of power just to turn the
main gear wheel).
If there is too much distance between the motor pinion and the main gear wheel, the teeth of the
main gear wheel will be sheared off by the motor pinion within a short time!
