Description of function

3.5.1 Measuring principle

The InPro 8600 series of sensors are used for the determination of undissolved particles or
substances in solutions. They are designed for measuring low to medium levels of turbidity and
colouration.
The sensors in the InPro 8600 series operate on the scattered-light principle in order to deter-
mine turbidity. Undissolved particles or substances located in the beam path of the sensor scat-
ter the impinging light. Detectors arranged at an angle of 25° (single-angle version) or 25° and
90° (dual-angle version) measure the scattered light. The ratio of scattered light to transmitted
light is output as a turbidity value. The turbidity value calculated in this manner is proportional to
the concentration of undissolved particles or substances.
The InPro 8600/W/3 also has a colour measurement function (with or without turbidity compen-
sation). Absorption of blue light is measured for the colour measurement. The graduation of
yellow is determined according the directives of MEBAK. This allows to measure turbidity and
graduation of yellow with one instrument.

3.5.2 Construction

The sensor consists of a sensor head and a sensor body. The sensor head, which is in contact
with the medium, is attached to the pipe using a Tuchenhagen Varivent
The instrument electronics are contained in the sensor body.
