7.1
Self-test
Immediately after switching on, the unit carries out a
self-test in which the built-in microcomputer checks
a number of vital functions of the equipment. If a
fault condition is detected during the self-test or
during treatment, this will be signalled by the ap-
pearance of dashes (-- --) on the display, and the
equipment will cease to function.
7.2. Displays do not light
•
Check that the mains plug is correctly inserted in
the wall socket,
•
Check that the connector is correctly inserted in
the mains input socket,
•
Check the mains cable (use a spare cable),
•
Check the mains supply to the wall socket,
•
Check the fuses.
If all the above are in order, the unit is probably de-
fective, and should be checked by your local sup-
plier.
7.3. Dashes (-- --) appear on the display
If dashes appear repeatedly after switching on the
ELTRAC 471, the unit is probably defective, and
should be checked by your local supplier.
7.4. Treatment cannot be started
Treatment can only be started when the following
conditions are met:
a) a patient stop switch is connected,
b) the treatment time has been set.
7.5. Traction force [2] cannot be
adjusted to a higher value/ LED
flashes
This situation can be rectified quite simply by press-
ing the traction force selector [2].
This situation occurs when a parameter other than
traction force has been adjusted after the start of
treatment, i.e. ten seconds after the adjustment, the
ELTRAC 471 automatically switches back to the trac-
tion force parameter. Then, for safety reasons, the
traction force can only be set to a lower value and
not to a higher value. See also remark paragraph
5.1. point [2].
7.6. The base force [3] cannot be set
Ensure that the traction force [2] has been set be-
fore attempting to set the base force. The base force
can only be set to a lower value than the traction
force.

CHAPTER 7 - FAULT CONDITIONS
7.7. Early termination of treatment
The ELTRAC 471 has a built-in, electronic safety de-
vice which is activated when large, unintended
changes in the traction force of the cord occur. These
can be caused by an abrupt movement of the pa-
tient, and/or by play in the accessories. We advise
taking this into account when fixing the cord (appli-
cation of the knot), as well as when using new straps
or new (extra) cords.
When the safety device is activated, the traction force
will be reduced to the minimum of 15 N at the maxi-
mum changeover speed, and the buzzer will sound.
The unelapsed treatment time continues to be indi-
cated on the display.
7.8. Replacing fuses
Defective fuses can be replaced by the user. Remove
the mains plug from the wall socket, and remove the
mains connector from the input socket. Unscrew the
fuse holder. Replace the defective fuse with one of
the same type (T0.315AH250V). Screw in the fuse
holder until it is finger tight, and reconnect the mains
cable.
