FOR BATTERIES AND RECHARGING SYSTEMS
CAUTION
Working near lead-acid battery poles is dangerous. Batteries produce explosive gases while being
recharged or tested.
Put the tester in a dry place; do not expose it to rain or snow.
PERSONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. Do not work on lead-acid batteries if nobody else is around.
2. Make sure that the area around the battery is well ventilated before starting the test.
3. Wear safety goggles and protective clothing.
4. Always keep some clean water and soap nearby, in case the battery acid comes in contact with
your skin, eyes or clothing|.
5. If skin or clothing comes in contact with the battery acid, immediately wash with soap and water.
If acid gets into your eyes, flush immediately with cold running water for at least ten minutes and
seek medical advice immediately.
6. Do not smoke or work with naked flames or sparking tools near the battery or engine.
7. Be careful not to hit the battery with metal or hard bodies.
8. Be careful not to drop any metal tools onto the battery; these may produce a spark or short-circuit
the battery or other electrical parts and cause an explosion.
9. Remove any personal metal objects, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches, while
working with the poles of a lead-acid battery; these may result in high-intensity short-circuits, thus
causing burns.
10. Clean the battery terminals, being careful not to let any corrosive agents come in contact with
your eyes.
11. Make sure that the battery is free from cracks or damage; do not use the tester if it is cracked or
damaged.
12. If the battery is not maintenance-free, pour distilled water into each cell, until the level specified
by the manufacturer is reached. This helps purify the excess of gas in the cells. Do not exceed the
recommended level.
13. Remove the battery from the vehicle, if need be; first remove the (black) earthing terminal from
the vehicle, making sure that all the accessories in the vehicle are off, to prevent arcs.
• Instrument Operating Conditions
The instrument for reading the A (CCA) power of a starter battery cannot be used in parallel with a
battery charger; the result cannot be defined as valid if the test is performed as follows: below -5 °C;
above +40 °C. Immediately after charging the battery, either wait a few hours or discharge the battery
for a few minutes, to remove the spurious charge generated by the battery charger, before performing
the test. The instrument must be stored in a dry place, at a temperature ranging between +5°C and
+50 °C. It is not waterproof.
• Maintenance
Maintenance-free. Check clamp insulation every 12 months.
