7. Start-up
• In the place of an eyepiece, insert the focus-
ing telescope (Fig. 27) into the observation
tube.
• Swivel in the phase contrast objective with
the lowest magnification.
• Focus on the specimen with the focus wheel.
• Focus the ring structure (29.a) by slightly loos-
ening the clamping ring (27.2) and moving the
eye lens (27.1).
• Retighten the clamping ring.
• Select the corresponding ring diaphragm
(light ring) in the condenser.
• If the light ring and the phase ring are not
shown as arranged in Fig. 29.c, the light ring
must be centered.
• Insert the centering screws into the openings
provided at the rear of the condenser (28.1).

• Turn the centering screws until the dark ring
• Repeat the process for all other light rings.
