Hot water and steam preparation

10.1 Hot water supply

Pointer: The nozzle becomes extremely hot when
hot water and steam are being supplied. Please
avoid touching the lower part of the nozzle at
this time, as it can result in scalding.
Set the function controller (25) to the 1 or 2
cup setting. When the coffeemaker has reached
operating temperature (temperature displays
lights up), open the steam/hot water valve
(17), Fig. M. Up to 150 ml of hot water can
be drawn. The valve can also be closed before
this volume, as soon as the desired amount
of hot water is reached. If more than 150 ml
of water is required, the process must be
repeated.

10.2 Steam supply

Turn the function controller (25) to steam and
press the start key (27). The machine heats
up to steam temperature and the temperature
display (20) flashes. This process takes approx.
30 seconds. The temperature display lights
up when the required temperature is reached.
You can now place a receptacle under the milk
frother and turn open the valve (17). Hot steam
drives the Easy Cappuccino (15).
If you want to use the steam for warming
other liquids – without frothing – then remove
the whisk of the Easy Cappuccino, Fig. B. This
is done by unscrewing the lower part of the
frother – the steam pipe – and by pressing
the whisk wheel from the top out of the steam
pipe, Fig. Q. Then screw the steam pipe back
onto the Easy Cappuccino.
Make sure the seal of the Easy Cappuccino
always sits firmly.
Pointer: Due to temperature differences in the
heating system, any remaining steam has to
be discharged through the Easy Cappuccino
should coffee be required directly after steam
supply.
Place a suitable receptacle under the milk frother
(15) and set the function controller (25) to the
1 or 2 cup setting.
Now open the steam/hot water valve (17) until
water is dispensed. Then close the valve (17)
fully again. The process lasts approx. 15 seconds.

10.3 Frothing milk

Turn the function controller (25) to steam and
press the start key (27). The temperature
display (20) flashes and the machine heats up
to steam temperature. The temperature display
lights up when the required temperature is
reached.
Tip: Before frothing milk, discharge any
condensation in the pipes by opening the
steam/hot water valve until steam comes out
of the Easy Cappuccino.
Fig. N
Fill the cup or receptacle only 1/3 full. This is
because milk rises rapidly during frothing. If
you want to froth milk in a larger receptacle,
place it on the left next to the drip tray and
swing the Easy Cappuccino (15) outwards.
Push down the Easy Cappuccino (15) until it
is covered by the milk and open the steam/hot
water valve (17). The steam drives the whisk
wheel in the Easy Cappuccino, making the
milk both warm and frothy. When the milk is
frothy enough, shut off the steam supply and
push the Easy Cappuccino back to its upper
position.
Use the froth regulating knob (16) to set the
desired froth quality, Fig. O. This regulates
the supply of air. More air (turning clockwise)
produces a coarser froth and less air (turning
anticlockwise) a finer froth.
Tip: It is not the milk's fat content which helps
produce the best froth, but its protein level. The
more protein the milk contains, the better it is
for frothing.
Pointer: Due to temperature differences in the
heating system, any remaining steam has to
be discharged through the Easy Cappuccino
should coffee be required directly after steam
supply.
Place a suitable receptacle under the milk frother
(15) and set the function controller (25) to the
1 or 2 cup setting.
Now open the steam/hot water valve (17) until
water is dispensed. Then close the valve (17)
fully again. The process lasts approx. 15 seconds.

Setting functions

11.1 Setting water hardness

It is important to set the right water hardness
to protect the coffeemaker from lime scale.
Proceed as follows:
½ Turn the function controller (25) to "F"
and confirm with Start.
½ Use the water quantity regulator (24) to set
the water hardness. (1 display light = water
hardness category 1, 4 display lights = water
hardness category 4.)
½ Confirm your selection with Start (27).
½ The display lights are extinguished and the
setting is stored.
Find out from your local water supplier about
the water hardness level in your area.

Cleaning

12.1 General cleaning

Wipe the outer surfaces of the machine with
a damp cloth.
Fig. P When the drip tray (9) is full (as shown
by the level indicator (11)), remove and empty
it. For thorough cleaning, the drip grate (10)
can be removed from the drip tray (9). Use
only warm water and non-scouring agents to
clean these parts. Also clean the level indicator
(11) to ensure its continued working. Simply
pull it out. After cleaning, put all parts back
together again. Only use the machine when
it is completely re-assembled.

11.2 Setting the timer

The appliance is equipped with a timer. The
shut-off time can be set individually between
1 and 5 hours. When the set time is up, the
appliance automatically shuts itself down. The
timer is activated automatically after the last
action.
½ Turn the function controller (25) to "F"
and confirm with Start.
½ Use the brewing strength regulator (23) to
set the timer to Auto-Shut-Off. (1 display
light means the appliance automatically
shuts down after 1 hour; 5 display lights
means it shuts down automatically after 5
hours.)
½ Confirm your selection with the start
key (27).
½ The display lights are extinguished and the
setting is stored.

Occasionally wipe the Bean Select bean
container (2) with a damp cloth to remove
any coffee oil or grease.
Regularly empty the coffee grounds container
(12) – at least 1x a day. For this, push the coffee
outlet (13) into the upper position and pull
out the coffee grounds container to the front.
Dispose of the coffee grounds and rinse out
the container with water. The machine is only
ready for use when the coffee grounds
container has been inserted back into the
appliance.
Tip: Throw coffee grounds away with organic
waste or onto the compost heap.
