Please read these instructions carefully and

Thank you for choosing the Petromax Dutch
Oven. Please read the entire user guide
thoroughly before using your Petromax Dutch
Oven.
SAFETY NOTES
• The Petromax Dutch Oven and its parts (lid,
handle) can become extremely hot. Keep away
from children! Operate and touch the Petromax
Dutch Oven with heat/fire proof gloves, or use
a lid lifter.
• Do not use, plunge, fill or spill cold liquids (e.g.
cold water) into/on the Dutch oven when it is
still hot, because this can cause the Dutch oven
to crack or warp.
• Do not use washing-up liquid, detergents,
or soaps (refer to "How do I clean the Dutch
oven?" for further information).
• To prevent damages to the cast iron, do not
drop the Dutch oven or subject it to strong
physical shock.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO BEFORE
FIRST USE?
Before first use, the Petromax Dutch Oven
must be cleaned with hot water (refer to "How
do I clean the Dutch oven?" for further advice).
Furthermore, we recommend not cooking acidic
food for the first few times because it may
damage the patina (refer to "How do I season the
Dutch oven?" for further advice). The Petromax
Dutch Oven is made of pre-seasoned cast iron.
Consequently, seasoning it is not necessary. The
Dutch oven is ready for immediate use.
HOW DO I CLEAN THE PETROMAX
DUTCH OVEN?
Proper care and maintenance will ensure the
highest performance and extend the useful
4
lifespan of your Petromax Dutch Oven.
• Do not use washing-up liquid, detergents, or
soaps to clean the Dutch oven because it may
damage its patina (pre-seasoned finish).
• Use a soft-bristled cleaning brush to clean the
Dutch oven thoroughly.
• Do not clean the Dutch oven with cold water
when it is hot. It can cause the Dutch oven
(cast iron) to crack.
• After the Dutch oven has cooled, clean it with
warm water.
• Do not store the Dutch oven if it is wet or has
not been cleaned.
• Dry the Dutch oven with a clean cloth, and
apply a thin layer of oil (sunflower oil or
vegetable fat) to it. Then store it where it will
stay dry
HOW DO I STORE THE PETROMAX
DUTCH OVEN?
Always let the Dutch oven cool down sufficient-
ly before storing it. Clean the Dutch oven, and
apply a thin layer of oil to it. We recommend
using sunflower oil, vegetable fat or the
Petromax Care and Seasoning Conditioner. Do
not use olive oil. Store it where it will stay dry.
The lid should be placed on the pot, but not too
tight to allow air circulation.
HOW DO I SEASON THE PETROMAX
DUTCH OVEN?
From time to time, you will have to renew the
patina (seasoned finish). If, for example, the
cast iron starts getting small rust spots, then
the Petromax Dutch Oven should be properly
cleaned and re-seasoned.
Remove the rust from the cast iron. Clean all
parts with warm water, a liquid detergent, and
a soft-bristled cleaning brush. Dry the Dutch
oven immediately with a cloth. Coat it thorough-
ly (inner and outer surfaces) with sunflower oil,
vegetable fat or the Petromax Care and Seasoning
Conditioner. Put the Dutch oven in the oven with
a temperature of approximately 180°C (356°F).
Bake for 1 to 2 hours. Then, switch off the oven.
Open the door of the oven, and let the Dutch
