INSTRUCTIONS

• Carefully read the instructions contained in this instruction handbook, since they
provide important information on safe installation, use and maintenance.
• This instruction handbook is an integral part of the product and must be carefully
kept by the user for future reference.
• If the unit is sold or transferred to another owner or if it is to be moved, always
make sure the handbook stays with the boiler so that it can be consulted by the
new owner and/or installer.
• Installation and maintenance must be carried out by professionally qualifi ed per-
sonnel, according to current regulations and the manufacturer's instructions.
• Incorrect installation or inadequate maintenance can result in damage or injury.
The manufacturer declines any liability for damage caused by errors in installation
and use or by failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
• Before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance operation, disconnect the unit
from the power supply by means of the system switch and/or the special cut-off
devices.
• In case of a fault and/or poor operation, deactivate the unit. Do not attempt to
repair it or directly intervene. Contact professionally qualifi ed personnel. Any
repair/replacement of products must only be carried out by professionally qualifi ed
personnel using original replacement parts. Failure to comply with the above
could affect the safety of the unit.
• Periodical maintenance is essential to ensure effi cient operation of the unit.
• This unit must only be used for its expressly designed purpose. Any other use is
deemed improper and therefore hazardous.
• After removing the packing, check the integrity of the contents. Packing materials
are potentially hazardous and must not be left within the reach of children.
• In case of doubt, do not use the unit. Contact the supplier.
• The pictures given in this manual are a simplifi ed representation of the product. In
this representation there may be slight and insignifi cant differences with respect
to the product supplied.

1. INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing a FERROLI multifunction solar column featuring advan-
ced design, cutting-edge technology, high reliability and quality construction
for exploiting solar energy. Please read this manual carefully since it provides
important information on safe installation, use and maintenance. The solar
column has a water circuit comprising: fl ow limiter, fi lling and emptying unit,
solar safety valve, variable speed circulating pump, solar expansion tank, DHW
expansion tank, electronic controller.
The solar column can be supplied as a separate component or as part of a com-
plete forced solar system. The complete kits are supplied packed on a single
pallet (ref. fi g.1) and, as well as the solar column, comprise the solar collectors
(1 to 3 depending on the kit), a solar boiler (200 to 500 litres, depending on
the kit), multifunction solar column and boiler connection pipes. The kits do not
include the solar collector connection pipes, which must be ordered separately
according to the required length. The instructions given in this manual apply to
the column as well as the complete forced systems, as appropriate according
to the order code.

2. INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION MUST ONLY BE CARRIED OUT BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL,
IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN IN THIS TECHNI-
CAL MANUAL, THE PROVISIONS OF CURRENT LAW, THE PRESCRIPTIONS
OF NATIONAL AND LOCAL REGULATIONS AND THE RULES OF PROPER
WORKMANSHIP.

IMPORTANT

• Before installation, commissioning and use, carefully read all the instructions for
the single components making up the solar system (in particular, solar collectors
and electronic controller).
• In case of installation on the roof or raised parts of the solar collectors, before
starting the work, prepare suitable antifall and/or safety devices in conformity with
the current regulations. Failure to provide for suitable safety measures and/or
safety devices can be the cause of falls from considerable heights, resulting in
serious or fatal injury.
• For the connection to the solar collectors, use the s/steel pipe kits DN15 code
072130X0 (15m) or 072131X0 (25m). Because of the high temperatures the heat
transfer fl uid can reach, DO NOT use plastic pipes, e.g. pipes in PE or similar
materials. Deformation or breakage of the pipes will cause a general system
failure!
• The solar circuit must be perfectly tight. Check all the connections between pipes
and fi ttings and make sure there are no leaks.
• The presence of air in the solar circuit will considerably affect its effi ciency. The
vent device must be installed at the highest point of the solar circuit and the sy-
stem must be completely vented after commissioning and after any maintenance
operation. The delivery and return pipes must be installed with adequate slopes
and turned towards the vent, avoiding the creation of air pockets. If the system
is not working and the automatic vent devices are not blocked, steam can come
out. Therefore the automatic vent devices must be blocked while the system is
working.
• The solar column safety valve outlet must be connected to a funnel or collection
pipe to prevent water spurting onto the fl oor in case of overpressure in the circuit.
Otherwise, if the discharge valve cuts in and fl oods the room, the manufacturer
cannot be held liable.
• Do not use the water system pipes to earth electrical appliances.
• The solar circuit must be fi lled with a special heat transfer fl uid, specifi c for solar
systems. Use of the "FERSOL LT" or "FERSOL ULTRA LT" is recommended and
provides adequate antifreeze protection to temperatures of -12°C and -25°C res-
pectively. In general, the type of fl uid should be selected according to the outside
temperature relevant to the specifi c heating system in the installation area. At
that temperature (e.g. -5°C) it is necessary to add approx. 7°C as a safety factor:
therefore in the example given, "FERSOL LT" antifreeze protection fl uid will be
suffi cient. FERSOL premixed solar fl uid contains non-toxic propylene glycol and
corrosion inhibitors thermostable to 300°C (peak temperature limit condition
reachable for very short periods). For the fl uid quantity calculation refer to chap.
3 "Commissioning".

of use different from those provided for or in case of unauthorised technical or
installation modifi cations.
