12. Causes and avoidance of false alarms
The combined detector can be triggered by condensation and tobacco
smoke. Small insects getting into the smoke alarm chamber may also
cause intermittent alarms.
Refer to chapter 6 »Mounting location«.
In the event of a presumed false alarm:
- Press the test button to cancel the active alarm.
For your own safety, you should immediately and regardless do the
following:
- Check your living space for small fires.
- Check your living space for fuel burning appliances, which may have
a malfunction.
Leave the room immediately if you feel dizzy or nauseous. Seek
fresh air immediately.
The following substances may affect the sensor at high concentrations
and cause a false alarm:
Methane, propane, iso-butane, ethylene, ethanol, alcohol, iso-propanol,
benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide, sulphur
dioxide.
