2 Hinweise für den sicheren Gebrauch
Dieses Gerät entspricht der Richtlinie für elektroma-
gnetische Verträglichkeit 89/336/EWG und der Nie-
derspannungsrichtlinie 73/23/EWG.
Das Gerät wird mit lebensgefährlicher Netzspan-
nung (230 V~) versorgt. Nehmen Sie deshalb nie
selbst Eingriffe im Gerät vor. Durch unsachgemä-
ßes Vorgehen besteht die Gefahr eines elek-
trischen Schlages. Außerdem erlischt beim Öff-
nen des Gerätes jeglicher Garantieanspruch.
Beachten Sie auch unbedingt die folgenden Punkte:
Vorsicht! Blicken Sie bei geöffneter CD-Schublade
nicht in den CD-Schacht. Eventuell austretende
Laserstrahlen können zu Augenschäden führen.
Das Gerät ist nur für den Innenbereich geeignet.
Nehmen Sie das Gerät nicht in Betrieb bzw. zie-
hen Sie sofort den Netzstecker aus der Steck-
dose, wenn:
1. sichtbare Schäden am Gerät oder an der Netz-
anschlußleitung vorhanden sind,
2. nach einem Sturz oder ähnlichem der Verdacht
auf einen Defekt besteht,
3. Funktionsstörungen auftreten.
Lassen Sie das Gerät in jedem Fall in einer Fach-
werkstatt reparieren.
Eine beschädigte Netzanschlußleitung darf nur
durch den Hersteller oder eine autorisierte Fach-
werkstatt ersetzt werden.
Ziehen Sie den Netzstecker nie an der Zuleitung
aus der Steckdose.
Wird das Gerät zweckentfremdet, falsch bedient
oder nicht fachgerecht repariert, kann für eventu-
elle Schäden keine Haftung übernommen werden.
Soll das Gerät endgültig aus dem Betrieb genom-
men werden, übergeben Sie es zur Entsorgung
einem örtlichen Recyclingbetrieb.
2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to the directive for electromag-
netic compatibility 89/336/EEC and to the low volt-
age directive 73/23/EEC.
The unit is supplied with hazardous mains voltage
(230 V~). Leave servicing to skilled personnel
only. Inexpert handling may cause an electric
shock hazard. Furthermore, any guarantee claim
will expire if the unit has been opened.
Please observe the following items in any case:
Caution! Never look into the CD mechanism
when the disk tray is open. Laser beams which
may be emitted can damage your eyes.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only.
Do not operate the unit or immediately disconnect
the plug from the mains socket
1. if there is visible damage to the unit or to the
mains cable,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit
was dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled
personnel.
A damaged mains cable must be replaced by the
manufacturer or skilled personnel only.
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
mains plug from the socket.
If the unit is used for other purposes than originally
intended, if it is not correctly operated or not re-
paired in an expert way, no liability for any
damage will be accepted.
If the unit is to be put out of operation definitively,
take it to a local recycling plant for disposal.

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in
accordance with the following code:
blue = neutral
brown = live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this
appliance may not correspond with the coloured
markings identifying the terminals in your plug,
proceed as follows:
3 Einsatzmöglichkeiten
Das Gerät CDX-400DJ ist eine Kombination aus
einem 4-Kanal-Mischpults und einem CD-Spielers mit
zwei Laufwerken und speziell für den professionellen
DJ-Bereich konzipiert. Viele Funktionsmöglichkeiten
sind genau auf diesen Einsatzbereich abgestimmt.
Auf dem CD-Spieler können Audio-CDs und
selbstgebrannte CDs (Audio CD-R) abgespielt wer-
den. Wiederbeschreibbare CDs (CD-RW) lassen
sich nicht abspielen.
Der CD-Spieler ist mit einem Anti-Schock-Spei-
cher für 10 Sekunden ausgestattet, in dem vor der
Wiedergabe die Musik eingelesen wird. Bei einer
Störung der CD-Abtastung durch Stöße oder Vibra-
tion wird die Musik aus dem Speicher gelesen. So
werden Tonunterbrechungen umgangen. Das Anti-
Schock-System kann jedoch keine anhaltenden
Stöße oder Vibrationen ausgleichen und nicht kor-
rekt arbeiten, solange der Speicher noch nicht kom-
plett eingelesen ist.
4 Gerät aufstellen und anschließen
Die Steuer- und die Laufwerkeinheit sind für die
Montage in ein Rack (482 mm/19") vorgesehen,
können aber auch als freistehende Tischgeräte ver-
wendet werden. Die Laufwerkeinheit muß auf jeden
Fall waagerecht betrieben werden, während die
Steuereinheit beliebig, z. B. auch geneigt, eingebaut
werden kann. Für den Einbau in ein Rack werden für
die Steuereinheit 5 HE und für die Laufwerkeinheit
2 HE benötigt (HE = Höheneinheit = 44,45 mm).
Vor dem Anschluß bzw. vor dem Verändern von An-
schlüssen den CDX-400DJ und die anzuschließen-
den Geräte ausschalten.
1) Die Steuereinheit und die Laufwerkeinheit mit den
beiden beiliegenden Anschlußkabeln verbinden:
Das 6polige Kabel in die Buchse CONNECT TO
MAIN UNIT 1 (41) der Steuereinheit und in die
Buchse CONNECT TO REMOTE CONTROL 1
(66) der Laufwerkeinheit stecken.
Das 8polige Kabel in die Buchse CONNECT TO
MAIN UNIT 2 (45) der Steuereinheit und in die

3 Applications
The unit CDX-400DJ is a combination of a 4-chan-
nel mixer and a CD player with two player mecha-
nisms specially designed for professional DJ appli-
cations. Many functional features have exactly been
matched to this range of application.
The CD player allows replay of audio CDs and
CDs which you have burnt yourself (audio CD-R). It
is not possible to replay rewriteable CDs (CD-RW).
The CD player is provided with an anti-shock
memory for 10 seconds into which the music is read
before it is replayed. If the CD sampling is disturbed
by shocks or vibrations, the music is read from the
memory. Thus, sound interruptions are prevented.
However, the anti-shock system is not able to com-
pensate permanent shocks or vibrations and to
operate correctly as long as the memory has not
been read in completely.
4 Setting up and Connecting the Unit
The control unit and the player mechanism unit are
designed for installation into a rack (482 mm/19"),
however, they can also be used as table top units. In
any case, the player mechanism unit must be oper-
ated in a horizontal position while it is also possible to
install the control unit as desired, e. g. in an inclined
position. For rack installation, 5 RS are required for
the control unit and 2 RS for the player mechanism
unit (RS = rack space = 44.45 mm).
Prior to making or changing any existing connec-
tions of the CDX-400DJ, switch off the units to be
connected.
1) Connect the control unit and the player mecha-
nism unit to the two supplied cables:

LINE OUT 2 (60) mit dem Eingang CD 2 (50).
In Verbindung mit einem anderen Mischpult
oder einem Verstärker und daran vorhandenen
Digitaleingängen, können auch die beiden Digi-
talausgänge DIGITAL OUT (61 und 64) verwen-
det werden.
3) Weitere Stereo-Tonquellen lassen sich an die
entsprechenden Cinch-Eingangsbuchsen der
Kanäle CH 1 – CH 4 anschließen:
— Geräte mit Line-Pegel-Ausgang (z. B. Mini-
Disk-Recorder, CD-Spieler, Kassettenrecor-
der) an die Buchsen LINE (48 und 55);
— Plattenspieler mit Magnetsystem an die Buch-
sen PHONO (52 und 54).
Die Masseanschlüsse der Plattenspieler mit
der Klemmschraube GND (51) verbinden.
Lassen sich die verwendeten Plattenspieler
über
eine
Kontaktsteuerung
(Crossfaderstart), die Steueranschlüsse der
Plattenspieler mit den entsprechenden Buch-
sen START (42) verbinden. Stehen die Ein-
gangswahlschalter (4 und 7) in der Position
PHONO und wird der Crossfader (20) nach
links geschoben, schließt der Kontakt für die
Buchse CH 2; wird er nach rechts geschoben,
schließt der Kontakt für die Buchse CH 3.

4) Ein Mikrofon für den Discjockey läßt sich an die
Buchse DJ MIC (3) anschließen und ein weiteres
Mikrofon an die Buchse MIC (49).
5) Sollen die Ausgangssignale über ein Effektgerät
bearbeitet werden, die beiden Kurzschluß-
brücken aus den Buchsen SEND (47) und

2) Connect the output LINE OUT 1 (65) of player
mechanism 1 via a cable with phono connectors to
the input CD 1 (53) of the control unit and the out-
put LINE OUT 2 (60) to the input CD 2 (50).
If another mixer or an amplifier with digital
inputs is used, it is also possible to use the two
digital outputs DIGITAL OUT (61 and 64).
3) It is possible to connect further stereo audio
sources to the corresponding phono input jacks
of channels CH 1 to CH 4:
— units with line level output (e. g. minidisk re-
corder, CD player, cassette recorder) to the
jacks LINE (48 and 55);
— turntables with magnetic system to the jacks
PHONO (52 and 54).
Connect the ground connections of the turnta-
bles to the terminal screw GND (51).
If the turntables used can be started remotely
via a contact control (crossfader start), connect
the control connections of the turntables to the
corresponding jacks START (42). If the input
selector switches (4 and 7) are in the position
PHONO and the crossfader (20) is slid to the
left, the contact for the jack CH 2 closes. If it is
slid to the right, the contact for the jack CH 3
closes.

4) It is possible to connect a DJ microphone to the
jack DJ MIC (3) and a further microphone to the
jack MIC (49).
