6. General information on explosion protection
GB
The requirements of the 94/9/EC (ATEX) directive must be observed.
Additionally, the respective country-specific regulations concerning
the use in potentially explosive atmospheres (e.g. EN/IEC 60079-10
and EN/IEC 60079-14) are applicable.
The plant manager and not the manufacturer/equipment supplier is
■
responsible for the zone classification.
It is the sole responsibility of the plant operator to ensure that thermometers
■
which are complete and in operation are identifiable with respect to all their
safety-related features. Damaged thermometers must not be used.
For the installation of the thermometers, only components (e.g. cables, cable
■
glands, etc.) which are suitable for flameproof enclosures must be used.
Observe the conditions given in EN/IEC 60079-14 for the grounding of
■
conducting shields.
When using a transmitter/digital indicator observe:
■
- The content of these operating instructions and the operating instructions of
the transmitter/digital indicator
- The respective regulations for the installation and operation of electrical
equipment
- The ordinances and directives regarding explosion protection
The flameproof thermometers must only be mounted to certified housings or
■
connection heads with the ignition protection type 'flameproof enclosure'.
Approved and listed field housings (Version 3) must only be mounted and
■
installed by a trained technician using the best-available technology.
The thread gab for electrical equipment allowed for installation in potentially
■
explosive gas atmospheres are indicated in EN/IEC 60079-1. The thread
gab (Section 5.3) of parallel threads (per Table 3) for a housing volume of
< 100 cm³ must be ≥ 5 mm and for a housing volume > 100 cm³ ≥ 8 mm.
At least 5 threads must be screwed in. Tapered threads (per Table 3) must
have ≥ 5 threads on each component. At least 3.5 threads must be screwed
in. These instructions regarding the thread gabs must be observed during
installation and operation.
The direct screw connection between the thermometer and the connection
■
head or housing must not be twisted or opened. The housing can only be
adjusted by means of the optional two-part neck tube.
