Flight characteristics
We recommend that the fi rst fl ights with the new paraglider be under-
taken in calm conditions in an area with which you are familiar. Prac-
tising infl ation a number of times on gentle terrain will increase your
confi dence in the OMEGA 7's handling from the very beginning.
Launch
The OMEGA 7's launch is relatively straightforward for a paraglider
in this performance category. Nevertheless, on account of the high
aspect ratio, the paraglider should be laid out in a slight curve, so
that the canopy fi lls evenly from the centre.
Forward launch
On account of the long lines, the OMEGA 7 needs a moderate im-
pulse during infl ation. The glider should be controlled positively by
means of the risers, until the canopy is positioned directly above the
pilot. Any corrections during the infl ation phase should only be carried
out by the pilot adjusting their position relative to the wing's centre of
pressure and without use of the control lines. Following corrections
and making a visual check, a few quick steps with a pronounced for-
ward lean are all that is required to launch, even in light wind.
Reverse launch
Reverse launch is particularly recommended in stronger breezes. On
account of the long lines, during the infl ation phase the pilot should
run far enough towards the OMEGA 7 as it comes up, so that the
pressure on the paraglider and thus the tendency to overshoot is
controlled. During reverse launch, corrections in the infl ation phase
should ideally only be carried out by the pilot adjusting their position
under the wing. Turning after control and take-off are then easy with
the OMEGA 7.
Normal fl ight
In calm air, the OMEGA 7 glides most effi ciently with the control lines
totally released. Light braking brings the glider into the position that
offers the lowest sink rate. With headwinds, sinking air and anticipat-
ed climbing in the next thermal, the glide performance is signifi cantly
improved by appropriate use of the accelerator. The SPI will help you
here. See also section «Speed Performance Indicator (SPI)». An ac-
tive fl ying technique is generally recommended in turbulent air.
Turns
