Disinfection
Procedure / indications
• Contact glasses are not dispatched in a disinfected
state and should always be disinfected before use.
• Contact glasses should be wiped clean and then
disinfected. Start with thorough cleaning under run-
ning cold water during 30 to 60 seconds. For more
intensive cleaning in case of strong contamination ca-
refully rub the prism with a cotton-wool ball under run-
ning water. In addition only mild soap may be used.
• For disinfecting purposes we recommend an aque-
ous 'Pantasept
'
solution of 3% during 10 minutes.

Refer to the latest versions of the manufacturer's instruc-
tions and sales literature for details of the exact concent-
ration, effecting time and application of disinfectant.
• A list of disinfectants tested for compatibility with
Haag-Streit products: www.haag-streit.com
• Only contact glasses, free of any residue, should be
used. Residue may cause provoking or caustic reac-
tions on the patient's eye.
The use of the following products / procedures
for disinfection will degrade the contact glass
and cause it to fail:
• Alcohol

• Acetone
• UV radiation
• Sterilization
• Immersing in fluid for more than 1 hour
• Temperature above 60 °C

Haag-Streit USA recommends
(a) Hydrogen Peroxide or
(b) Sodium Hypochlorite (= Household Bleach;
formula for bleach is: NaOCl).
Disinfection time
(a) Hydrogen Peroxide: 10 minutes.
(b) Sodium Hypochlorite (= Household Bleach):
10 minutes.
Concentration
(a) Hydrogen Peroxide: 3% aqueous solution.
(b) Sodium Hypochlorite (= Household Bleach):
10% aqueous solution.
